ICHI & LUKE
LEGACY FUND
Community Support Program
The Ichi & Luke Legacy Fund provides services to help Lee County community pets that have owners or are reported as strays. The goal of this program is to support the Lee County Animal Shelter with strays that come in with life-threatening medical conditions, as they do not have the means to fund or care for animals with serious emergencies. This fund also aims to help pet owners keep their pets rather than surrendering them to the county shelter by providing basic veterinarian services, such as spay and neuter assistance and vaccinations. Keeping pets with owners who love them not only preserves the human-animal bond, but also helps our animal shelter reserve their limited resources.
How to Get Help
The Ichi & Luke Legacy Fund is available to families that live in Lee County. To be eligible, pet owners must be a Lee County resident experiencing a financial hardship and be willing to spay or neuter their pet to receive services.
The legacy fund can help with the following:
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Annual wellness services
- Flea/tick and heartworm preventatives
- Pet food/supply pantry
- Grooming services
- Access to emergency veterinary care

The legacy fund was created to provide a means to support the Lee County community with the ever growing pet population. The fund is named after Ichi, a kitten that was originally helped by Carolina Veterinary Hospital when he came in as a severe medical stray to the Lee County Animal Shelter and the shelter could not help him. He had severe damage to his paws and fractures in his back legs. Carolina Vet volunteered their time and medical services to save him. He then entered Lending Paws A Hand for additional surgery and follow up care. Unfortunately, he passed away due to complications following surgery. The fund is also named after Luke, the very first foster dog affiliated with LPAH. This community support program aims at supporting stray animals in Lee County needing medical attention, reducing pet overpopulation, and keeping pets out of the shelter and in their homes where they belong.
