Thank you for considering Lending Paws A Hand! Our goal is to find the right home and the right fit for each rescued cat and dog. Because our animals are cared for in foster homes, our adoption process includes an application, reference checks, a home visit, and a meet and greet.

LPAH currently adopts to homes in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

1. APPLICATION

Complete our Adoption Application in its entirety.

2. SCREENING

We will review your application and contact your personal and veterinary references. Please let your references know to expect a call from LPAH.

3. HOME VISIT & MEET AND GREET

If your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit, either in person or virtually, followed by a meet and greet with you and any current pets in your household.

A $20 transportation fee applies if you live more than 25 miles from the foster home.

4. APPROVAL

Once approved, arrangements will be made for your pet to go home with you. Before the adoption is finalized, you must complete an Adoption Agreement and provide verification of a government-issued photo ID, as required for our licensed rescue under the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

5. ADOPTION FEE

The adoption fee is due when the pet is transferred to the adopter unless other arrangements have been confirmed.

• Adult Cats — $100
• Kittens (under 5 months) — $175
• Adult Dogs — $200
• Puppies (under 5 months) — $275
• Hero Pets — $300

Hero Pets are animals designated by LPAH as likely to be adopted quickly. Their higher adoption fee helps offset the cost of caring for animals who may need more time or resources to find their forever homes.

Veterinary Care

All animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered when age appropriate. If a pet is too young for surgery before adoption, LPAH will arrange and pay for the procedure. The adopter must coordinate transportation to the veterinarian or meet an LPAH volunteer to ensure the required care is completed before the adoption is finalized.

Our Cat Policy

LPAH cats must be adopted to indoor-only homes, and we do not allow declawing.
